Just a bit about me (because you asked)

20Aug09

I am not rich. I am not famous. But, I am a Children’s and YA Librarian. So, the fame and riches are sure to follow if I continue on this path.

Maybe not, but I am doing something I love: helping people. That definetley counts for something.

What else about me? I am thirty-something. Actually, I was lumped into a group labeled “middle aged librarians” the other day. Ouch! Theoretically, I guess I am – but I still view myself as somewhat “youngish.”

I try to keep up with what is going on around me – but some of the music I hear lately is staring to grate on my nerves. Which is worse? The song that proclaims – “shut your lips – do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips,” or the one that shouts “call 911 –  shorty fire burning on the dance floor?”

Anyway, if not as “hip” as I used to fancy myself being. I do make an effort at learning what is new in libraries and to some extent technology. I started doing gaming in my library about 4 or so years ago. Much to the joy of the teens, tweens and children. The first game we introduced was Dance, Dance Revolution. I had also created a MySpace page for my branch as well as a Delicious page.

Gaming, library 2.0 applications and meeting people are a few of my favorite things about my job.

The first two of the above I also enjoy in my personal life. Not, that I don’t like meeting new people in my private life – but I am a true introvert when I punch out of the library.

At home, I enjoy hanging out with my husband and being pestered by my two cats. I also enjoy writing, cooking, sleeping and reading – but not neccessarily in that order.

On reading: I guess my favorite author is Jane Austen. But, I read a wide range of literature. From picture books to juvenile and YA books to adult fiction and non-fiction. Right now I am engrossed in Jane Austen inspired books – some of which take place in contemporary times, such as Austenland by Shannon Hale. I am also enjoying the YA author Laurie Halse Anderson very much lately.

Well, that is me in a nut shell. Maybe not complete, but alright for now.
